Why You Need a Wedding Videographer for your Wedding

(A totally non-biased opinion, of course!)

If a photo says a thousand words, then what exactly does video have to offer for your wedding day? I know that videography is something that many couples are unsure about having for their wedding, but rest assured - more and more couples are choosing video, because video brings an entirely different toolkit to the party… it’s one of the best investments you can make into your wedding day!

Combining photography and videography really provides you the full package - capturing the emotions of a moment, along with the sounds, atmosphere, and feeling from every single important moment of the day.

What are the reasons to have a videographer?

Capture beautiful moments - and the emotion that comes with them.

1. One of the reasons we invest in photography for life’s big moments is because of its ability to capture and preserve raw emotion from one moment in time. Videography captures the emotion of life’s most important moments in a completely different way. It captures the reaction of the people we care about most, it incorporates the auditory response, and allows us to replay the moment as it happened.

2. As a wedding videographer, my job is to tell your story. Video allows me to tell stories on a more multi-dimensional level by incorporating the energy of movement, the sensation of auditory stimulus, and the beauty of words spoken - along with all of the excitement and anticipation of your wedding. All of this combined with a carefully curated sound track (that you too can have a hand in choosing), and you have a beautiful wedding film that encapsulates your love, and all of the emotion of your wedding day.

3. Weddings offer a rare opportunity for your family and friends to all gather together in one place, and with video, you can capture the laughs, speeches, and conversations that your loved ones had. Being able to remember the joy and happiness (and the raw emotion) of our families during their wedding is something that many of my past clients have said they still cherish to this day.

Cinematic wedding films - are they for me?

Not all wedding films are equal, and as you will see, wedding films are often more customizable than wedding photography packages. As your videographer, my job is to capture your day as it happens, and tell that beautiful story of your love using every tool at my disposal - that means beautiful images, high quality audio recordings from the day, and a carefully curated soundtrack.

Cinematic wedding films require more energy and focus during production, meaning that the final output is a beautifully captured and fully featured film starring you, your spouse, and your family and friends. I find that to deliver on the level of quality required for a cinematic wedding film, offering photography coverage as well is not possible without a dedicated associate photographer, so this is something that will need to be considered during the booking process.

Where the flexibility in videography packages comes into play is the ability to offer a more budget-friendly and less highly-produced version of a cinematic wedding film while also doing photography as well, reducing the crew size and giving you more time to enjoy your day with friends and family - keep reading for more information on that!

Here is an example of a fully-featured, cinematic wedding film!

Hybrid videography - a new type of coverage!

Up until now, the majority of videography coverage was offered by specialist video production companies that require multiple videographers, and tons of video and lighting gear. The industry is changing, however, and many photographers have begun offering hybrid videography coverage as a compliment to their photography packages. If you’re interested in videography but are unsure how it fits into your budget, then my hybrid wedding video option might just be for you!

The reality of my hybrid video packages is that it captures your days’ most important moments, while not overwhelming you with cameras, lights, and elaborate production setups. That means you will have more time to spend with your new spouse, your wedding party, and all of the most important people to you, while still getting a videography offering that meets your needs. The package is simpler, and depending on what you’re looking for, may be more to your liking.
