Canmore and Banff Wedding Accommodation Guide

If you’re booking a wedding in either Canmore or Banff, then it’s important to consider accommodations for your guests that are travelling from far away. The good news is that both Canmore and Banff are well equipped with a large stock of visitor accommodation units, but both towns offer different style of accommodations. Canmore is more AirBnB friendly, where you’ll find the Town of Banff to be offering only hotel rooms.

Canmore Accommodations

Canmore has a variety of different accommodation options, which includes a range from studio-sized hotel rooms to full sized (and fully equipped) townhome units. The short term rental units found on websites like AirBnB and Vrbo are plentiful, but do book up well in advance - and for substantial nightly rates - during the summer months. One of the major benefits of having your guests book these types of units in Canmore is that the vast majority of those units are located within a few block radius on Kananaskis Way, within walking distance to grocery stores, venues like Cornerstone Theatre, and even downtown Canmore.

Canmore does also have a variety of hotel options as well. Some of the larger companies may be willing to offer accommodation blocks if you contact them, like Basecamp Resorts (which operates a number of local hotel complexes). Depending on your venue of choice, you may also look to stay in some of Canmore’s top hotels, like the Malcolm Hotel while your guests may still choose to stay in the condo, or one of Canmore’s other hotel options.

Banff Accommodations

The accommodation situation in Banff is quite a bit different than Canmore. Due to zoning issues and the town’s location inside of Banff National Park, short term rental units on websites like AirBnB and Vrbo are essentially non-existent, leaving only hotel options for your guests. It’s important to note that the stock of visitor accommodations in Banff is lower than Canmore, and also in higher demand, so I would suggest getting your guests to book well in advance to avoid any issues (this is especially true in the summer). A quick trip to Expedia or Kayak should yield a number of different hotel options at different price points. Be sure to let your guests know that a trip to AirBnB will only yield disappointment! And of course, there’s always the famous Banff Springs Hotel, if budget is no issue for you!
